How We Work

Our Approach

Working toward results

Evidence-based methods, concrete outcomes. We measure what we do against real-world change.

Finding low-hanging fruit

We look for small changes with big impact — prioritising reforms that are achievable and consequential.

Starting conversations

Public discussion drives policy outcomes. We write, advocate, and engage to move ideas into practice.

Pushing ourselves

Hard work, high volume, high standards. We hold ourselves to the quality bar we ask of our clients.

Conviction over cynicism

You can't change things if you never try. We take on hard problems because they matter.

Non-partisan integrity

Our work will always include not-for-profit policy activities: pro bono advisory, education, and open data tools.

Track Record

Our Impact

View all projects →

Since April 2024, we have focused on maximising the impact we can make with available resources. Below is a sample of our work.

Policy Advocacy

Third spaces for communities

Advocacy for social development policy promoting community spaces, reflected in a Cabinet decision to develop a "Third Space Community Centre" in central Malé.

Our publications and advocacy highlighted the lack of social spaces outside the home and work in Maldivian city development, and promoted social policy focused on creating third spaces for intergenerational connections and community enrichment. This was reflected in a Cabinet decision in November 2024 to develop a "Third Space Community Centre" in central Malé.

Pro Bono

National Library policy support

Technical and policy expertise supporting the National Library in preparing Social Council papers — approved, with construction of a new central library set to begin in 2025.

We supported the National Library of Maldives with technical capacity and policy expertise in a pro bono capacity. Our work included supporting the Library in preparing a Social Council paper to advocate for an up-to-date central National Library building, Regional Libraries in key cities, a boat library for atolls, and a network of library services in rural areas. This paper was approved and construction is set to begin in 2025.

Research

Cost of Politics in the Maldives

Lead research for Westminster Foundation for Democracy on campaign costs, vote-buying, and electoral integrity — key recommendations were adopted in announced government reforms.

Our team led research on the costs of running for election in the Maldives through interviews with candidates and experts, focusing on parliamentary elections including vote-buying practices, campaign expenditures, misuse of funds, and other challenges. The government subsequently announced plans for electoral reforms matching key recommendations from the report.

Capacity

Training programs for policy workers

Developed 12-session practical training courses for government, NGO, and policy-sector staff — covering what university programmes don't. Online versions launching June 2025.

We have developed courses collecting practical tips and advice from experienced officials into 12 seminar sessions, providing practical information directly relevant to staff in government, NGO, and other policy-related sectors outside of what gets taught in official university courses. Online versions of these seminars will be made available in June 2025.
